Job Title: DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Location: District of Columbia
Posting Date: 04/06/09
About the Internship: The internships we offer provide a comprehensive understanding of political work for environmental protection and the role that LCV plays as the political voice in the environmental community. Interns support staff in the Campaigns, Communications, Development, and Policy and Lobbying Departments to influence and elect a pro-environment Congress and White House and educate votes on environmental issues. The League of Conservation Voters internships provide a unique opportunity for exposure to a broad cross section of national environmental groups.
The internships are full-time positions for four-six months and interns receive a stipend to defray expenses. Interns are selected based on their education and experience with campaigns and political work, as well as their conservation interests. We especially seek interns who have good research, writing, and editing skills. Intern work is a mixture of programmatic work (writing, study, research) and administrative work (database entry, faxing, photocopying) with administrative work varying by department.
About LCV: LCV is the independent political voice of the environment and the only organization devoted full-time to advocating for sound environmental policies and electing pro-environmental candidates who will adopt and implement such policies. LCV also works with colleges and universities to offer students the ability to earn college credit while working as an intern. Check with your school to see if you are eligible.
LCV Development Interns support the entire development department staff, including low-donor and website activities and high donor staff.Duties include donor and political research, writing and posting new items for LCV's distinctive website, working with events staff to help create invitations and organize fundraising events, assisting with the high donor mail program and maintaining the donor databases. Interns also field requests for information from the public as well as draft response letters, acknowledgements and other correspondence.
Interns will also provide support in all aspects of foundation giving, including developing and maintaining relationships with Foundations by sending letters of inquiries, writing proposals, fulfilling grant agreement requirements, reporting, and researching new funding opportunities.
