The New York League of Conservation Voters, the only statewide environmental organization in New York that fights for clean water, clean air, renewable energy and open space through political action, is seeking a Director of Development. Reporting to the President, the Director of Development is responsible for overseeing the organization's development plan. This individual will implement a plan for major gift fundraising and will work closely with other members of the development staff, including a Director of Events and a Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving, to ensure coordination among the organizations' various giving programs. The individual also will serve as the staff liaison with the boards of the two organizations and their Committee on Directors. This person must be able to work independently while also working as a member of the joint development and financial management team.


Oversee an annual development plan

Create a robust major gifts program

Identify and cultivate prospective donors

Develop and propose strategies for solicitation of major gifts, including: determining ongoing relationships with prospect/donor; recommending specific purpose and level of gift; identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation; assuring that solicitations are carried out

Work closely with the boards of directors

Co-ordinate an effective program for recognition, involvement and stewardship of major gift donors in coordination with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving

Work closely with other development staff members to ensure effective coordination of effort with their programs


Two to three years of major gift fundraising required

Experience with a 501c4 organization

Knowledge of state and federal tax laws that impact charitable giving and political giving
