New Jersey

New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (New Jersey LCV) and Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania (CVPA) serve as the leading political voices for the environment in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, respectively. They are both non-partisan, statewide organizations dedicated to holding elected officials accountable for their actions that impact our precious natural resources.

New Jersey LCV and CVPA seek a Ladder of Engagement Organizer with prior organizing experience to develop a new program to cultivate online activists into offline action takers and future leaders. By strategically promoting partner-led activities and public meetings, and creating and leading activities for New Jersey LCV and CVPA, you will move online activists up the leadership ladder, increasing the number of people who volunteer and are committed to advocate for clean water across Delaware River watershed.

  • Identify and promote, and in some cases create and lead, opportunities for our online activists to engage at deeper levels more consistently, including writing LTEs, attending or speaking at community meetings, making phone calls, sharing a story, or joining a conference call.
  • Do one-on-one outreach to increase response to field events and follow up with supporters to track attendance and build relationships.
  • Collaborate with allied organizations to build citizen leaders and, where possible, increase collaboration amongst partners.
  • Develop systems to track volunteer and engagement interest and participation.
  • Coordinate with the digital team to run email tests to optimize response rates to offline events.
  • Meet with supporters at volunteer and public events throughout the Delaware River watershed region with the goal of building a core group of committed supporters.
  • Share successes with partners and coach colleagues at other organizations on how to build and maintain successful volunteer and outreach programs.
  • Develop digital, social media, and print outreach materials to increase engagement and turnout.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully relate to community members from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Comfort and experience doing direct volunteer recruitment and cultivation through individual calls and meetings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and look for opportunities, follow-through, and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Comfort representing the organizations at partner-led and community events and meetings.
  • One year of campaign experience or community organizing experience preferred.
  • A strong commitment to environmental protection is a must.

This is a full-time position, and can be based in Philadelphia, PA; Trenton, NJ; or Somerset, NJ. However, we expect you will rarely be in the office and will primarily be at events and meeting with supporters throughout the Delaware River watershed region, so a valid driver’s license and access to a car are required.
