Conservation Colorado is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to lead our major donor program, primarily by building, diversifying, and maintaining partnerships with individual supporters across the state.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working to engage and inspire individuals to invest in their passion. They will demonstrate an ability to excel in a fast-paced environment, handle a heavy workload, and be politely persistent with our donors and stakeholders. This position presents an opportunity to connect with and cultivate avid supporters of Colorado’s environment and help position an already very successful organization for the next stage in revenue growth. The position is based in Denver but will require some travel throughout the Front Range and the state.

About Conservation Colorado:
Conservation Colorado works to protect Colorado’s environment and quality of life by mobilizing people and electing conservation‐minded policy makers. We work closely with policy leaders, citizen activists, businesses and other conservation nonprofits, and have built a reputation as one of the leading conservation advocacy organizations in the region. This year we will be tackling everything from working to ensure our state has enough water for future generations and implementing the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan, to moving key public lands and wilderness bills that will protect iconic places in Colorado.


The Major Gifts Officer, who is based in Denver and reports to the Development Director, is responsible for the following:

  • Developing strategies for donors in the $1,000 to $500,000 range to give more to the organization annually and over time;
  • Developing and implementing a special mid-level donor ($250-$999) giving campaign to increase annual giving
  • Assisting executive director with outreach to major donors;
  • Managing own portfolio of 120 donors;
  • Organizing 2-3 cultivation events per year for major donors, prospective major donors, and other key stakeholders (25-40 attendees per event);
  • Overseeing the roll-out of a planned giving program;
  • Assisting with the creation of the overall development strategy for the organization;
  • Expanding our donor outreach to more diverse audiences; and
  • Actively participating in achieving other organizational priorities as the need arises.

You should possess:

  • A passion for protecting Colorado’s land, air, water, and people through citizen action;

  • A passion for and an enjoyment of fundraising;
  • Experience communicating with racially, ethnically, and/or geographically diverse communities;
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work independently;
  • Professionalism to act as a representative of Conservation Colorado in myriad situations and circumstances; and
  • The highest level of integrity, confidentiality and business ethics.

Nonprofit fundraising experience and familiarity with Colorado’s political and/or environmental donors are both pluses but not requirements. In addition, Spanish/English bilingual is nice, but not a requirement. The position requires a willingness to work evening and weekend hours as needed.

Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation depends on experience and is highly competitive. Includes health/dental benefits, retirement with match, paid time off program and sabbatical program.
