As part of our long-term commitment to engage new constituencies and to diversify the environmental movement, the League of Conservation Voters launched Chispa. Primarily through grassroots community organizing programs, Chispa is fostering strong local and national Latino leadership in the fight against climate change. The Chispa Arizona Director will oversee our program in Phoenix, Arizona. Since 2014, Chispa Arizona has been amplifying the voice and power of Latino families in the greater Phoenix area to be part of the solution to pollution and climate change and to promote clean air and clean energy. We are looking for a creative leader who is systems and goal-oriented, a visionary, a skilled manager and someone who is experienced in community organizing and movement building.

LCV works to turn environmental values into national, state, and local priorities. LCV, in collaboration with our state LCV partners, advocates for sound environmental laws and policies, holds elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, and elects pro-environment candidates who will champion our priority issues.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and evaluate issue organizing campaigns that successfully recruit volunteers, build grassroots leaders and gets the attention of decision makers and media.
  • Hire, train and manage a successful, motivated team and ensure they have the resources, plans, tools and motivation needed to meet short and long-term goals and to take leadership in the program.
  • Develop relationships and partnerships with local coalitions, community organizations, leaders and policymakers.
  • Oversee a communications strategy that is local and national, integrates tradition and social media and utilizes Spanish and English language media.
  • Manage the administrative aspects of the program including financial oversight, reporting, and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6+ years leadership experience in grassroots community, issue or labor organizing programs.
  • Extensive experience in developing and managing organizing programs that include issue advocacy, volunteer outreach and leadership development, social media and communications, coalition building, and working with local and national leaders.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills including campaign planning and strategy development and the ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast paced work environment.
  • Exceptional staff management and relationship building skills.
  • Creative problem-solver who is resourceful in challenging and new situations.
  • Spoken and written Spanish language skills are required.
  • Experience with the VAN and Excel is required.
  • Position requires the ability to travel and to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to amplifying the voice and leadership of Latino communities in Arizona.
  • Preference will be given to those who have Arizona experience or ties.

The position will be based in Phoenix, Arizona and is a full-time salaried position that includes a comprehensive benefits package. Salary is commensurate with experience.
