The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) works to turn environmental values into national, state and local priorities. LCV, in collaboration with our state LCV partners, advocates for sound environmental laws and policies, holds elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, and elects pro-environment candidates who will champion our priority issues.
Recent events have underscored the importance of the judiciary to environmental progress. After the best few months ever in the fight against climate change, the stakes could not be higher for the current Supreme Court vacancy or for the many lower court judicial vacancies across the country. The president has a constitutional obligation not only to nominate a successor to Justice Scalia, but also to nominate judges to fill vacancies in appellate and district courts. The Senate has an obligation to give judicial nominees a fair hearing and a timely vote. LCV’s program will seek to ensure that the Senate stops obstructing and starts meeting its responsibilities to fill judicial vacancies.
