Daniel J. Weiss, Senior Vice President for Campaigns. Dan joined LCV in July 2014 to oversee federal and state campaigns, and the Latino program. Previously, he was a Senior Fellow and Director of Climate Strategy at the Center for American Progress (CAP). Dan was CAP’s lead strategist on the Energy Independence and Security Act, the American Clean Energy and Security Act, and the energy provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. As part of these efforts, he researched and wrote numerous reports and analyses about climate change, extreme weather, clean energy, and oil and gas policies. Dan testified on climate and energy issues 14 times before Senate and House Committees, and promoted CAP clean energy policies to Senators, Representatives, and senior Obama Administration officials. Before his seven years at CAP, he was Senior Vice President at M+R Strategic Services, a private consulting firm, working with environmental organizations on energy and clean air issues. Prior to M+R, Dan was Political Director and Director of the Environmental Quality Program at Sierra Club. He ran its $10 million voter education (527) program. He was also a top strategist and lobbyist for Sierra Club’s successful Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Food Security Act campaigns. Dan has extensive media experience, with multiple appearances on ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, NPR, CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, and Fox News among other outlets. He earned Master of Public Policy and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Michigan. He is married to Sherry Ettleson, and has two daughters and a son in high school.
