Phoenix, AZ – In response to the Arizona Corporate Commission decision Tuesday to end the state’s net metering system:

“Tuesday’s decision by state utility regulators to end Arizona’s net metering customer credit system threaten to cripple what has been, until now, the steady and encouraging growth of residential rooftop solar power,” said Masavi Perea, director of Chispa Arizona, a Latino organizing program of LCV, which promotes renewable energy use among Latinos. “The Arizona Corporate Commission’s ruling shows its willingness to kneel to our state’s system of monopoly-run utility providers. Because of the Commission’s decision, the cost of rooftop solar power will accelerate and solar energy use, especially among low-come homeowners, may stall. This might be good for the utility companies’ bottom line, but it’s bad for our environment, our communities and it’s bad for Arizona’s economy.”
