WASHINGTON, DC-The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, NRDC Action Fund PAC and NextGen Climate have together already raised or contributed more than $1 million for federal and state candidates through GiveGreen and GiveGreen in the States in the 2017-2018 election cycle. The $1 million milestone sets a new record for the earliest amount raised in an election cycle by the groups.

LCV Action Fund’s federal GiveGreen program, which is supported by the NRDC Action Fund PAC and NextGen Climate, helps to elect pro-environmental candidates at the federal level. GiveGreen in the States is a project of LCV Political Engagement Fund and NextGen Climate to help support pro-environmental candidates in the states.

“Americans expect government to put people first, protect us from pollution and invest in our children’s health and future. We’re getting the exact opposite from the Trump administration. It’s working hand-in-glove with the fossil fuel industry to gut the common sense safeguards that protect clean air, waters and lands. We have to elect candidates who understand the stakes – for the country, and for our children – and will stand up to defend our health, our safety and the environment,” said Rhea Suh, president of the NRDC Action Fund PAC.

“It is utterly useless to try to convince the Trump Administration to do the right thing. Instead, we must focus our efforts on taking back the House of Representatives, governorships, and state legislatures across the country,” said NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer. “It is clear that the future of our country requires strong leaders who will stand up to Donald Trump, and we are committed to supporting bold progressive candidates up and down the ballot who will protect our environment and support the transition to clean energy.”

“As we deal with the most anti-environmental president and Congress we’ve ever seen, it is more important than ever to support pro-environmental candidates up and down the ballot. Our members understand this and are eager to contribute in any way they can to push back on Trump’s dangerous environmental agenda. We look forward to continuing this record-setting pace as the cycle continues,” said Gene Karpinski, president of LCV Action Fund.

During the 2016 election cycle, the GiveGreen program raised or contributed more than $8.4 million for environmental candidates. In the 2014 election cycle, the GiveGreen program raised or contributed over $5.8 million for environmental candidates.
