LCV Action Fund Endorses Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress

Oct 17, 2018

Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress in New York’s 14th Congressional District.

“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is committed to a renewable energy transformation that will spark true economic recovery and protect the planet,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are excited to endorse her campaign and look forward to working with her to fight climate change and protect the communities that are most threatened by pollution and the climate crisis.”

“This is a critical and scary time for our country, with climate deniers in the Republican party trying to undo decades of progress against climate change,” said Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. “At a moment when we desperately need to take bold action to prevent permanent damage to our planet, I’m proud to stand with the League of Conservation Voters as they hold the powerful accountable in the name of climate justice. I look forward to continuing to push for systemic change with a Green New Deal paired with a Federal Jobs Guarantee to ensure that no person has to choose between unsafe, unhealthy jobs and unemployment. We can empower people and our planet with green jobs, because it’s time for the government to stop subsidizing dirty energy and instead make smart, just and equitable investments in our environment.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was born in the Bronx, New York, and graduated from Boston University with a degree in economics and international relations. She was an organizer for Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign. Following the Sanders campaign, she spent time as an activist in both Flint, Michigan, and in North Dakota protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline. She has made climate action and environmental justice centerpieces of her campaign for Congress and is committed to implementing a 21st century Green New Deal to spur economic recovery and accelerate our transition to a clean energy economy.
