Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Representative Charlie Crist for re-election in Florida’s 13th Congressional District.

“Representative Crist is a devoted public servant who has committed his career to helping Floridians, restoring the Everglades, safeguarding endangered wildlife, and building a clean energy economy,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “He has been a leader on protecting Florida from and planning for the impacts of climate change during his time as Governor and in Congress. Representative Crist is a strong advocate for a healthy and safe environment and we are so excited to endorse him for re-election.”

“Florida’s Gulf Coast is home to some of America’s most pristine natural resources, and Representative Charlie Crist understands how to protect them better than anyone,” said Florida Conservation Voters Executive Director Aliki Moncrief. “As Governor, he held BP accountable for their disastrous Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and led an historic effort to preserve lands critical for restoring the Everglades. Now in Congress, he continues to champion smart policies to address climate change and build a clean energy economy.”

“We are called to be good stewards of our environment — and it’s the right thing to do,” said Representative Crist. “By protecting our environment, we ensure future generations have access to the same or better resources and opportunities than we do. Florida is the most beautiful place in the world, and I will work every day to make sure that never changes.”

Representative Charlie Crist is running for his second term representing Florida’s 13th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is a member of the subcommittee on Science, Space, and Technology, where he has spoken out against President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. He is also a co-sponsor of the CLIMATE Act to stop the implementation of Trump’s anti-environment Executive Orders.

As Florida’s governor, Crist pursued an expansive environmental agenda. He led the state purchase of 70,000 acres of land to restore the Everglades and reduce nutrient pollution, fought to ensure BP compensated Florida coastal communities in the wake of their 2010 oil spill, created a solar energy rebate program, called for greater energy usage from solar, wind, biofuel, and other alternatives, and convened Florida’s first climate change summit in 2007. He also led the fight to create a renewable portfolio standard and to ban drilling off Florida’s coasts, though these initiatives stalled in the state legislature.

Crist is featured on GiveGreen.com, a project of LCV Victory Fund and NextGen America, supported by the NRDC Action Fund PAC. GiveGreen.com is the only website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions running for office. Last cycle, the GiveGreen program raised more contributions to candidates than ever before — over $8.3 million for state and federal candidates.
