Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Jared Golden for Congress in Maine’s 2nd District.

“Jared Golden has a proven record of standing up for clean air and water in Maine,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are excited to endorse his campaign because as a veteran and a state legislator he has shown a deep commitment to making the U.S. a world leader in the fight against climate change, growing Maine’s clean energy economy, and protecting the special places that in many ways define Maine.”

“Jared Golden has been an important ally in the Maine House of Representatives,” said Maine Conservation Voters Executive Director Maureen Drouin. “We are confident that he will continue to be a champion for clean water in Congress and look forward to working with him to protect Maine’s unique natural resources while growing our economy.”

“Maine’s natural beauty — from our rugged coastline to our mountains and lakes and rivers — is not just key to our state’s economic future, but our calling card as well,” said Jared Golden. “I’m proud to stand with the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund in protecting these natural resources and am pleased to have their support.”

Jared Golden was born in Lewiston and raised in Leeds, Maine. In 2002, after spending a year at the University of Maine, Farmington, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in response to the September 11th attacks. After serving combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, Golden returned home and graduated from Bates College. He was elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 2014, and rose to the position of Assistant Majority Leader. Golden has been a strong environmental ally in the Maine House of Representatives, sponsoring legislation to incentivize homeowners and landlords to address issues of lead pollution and earning perfect scores on the Maine Conservation Voters’ Scorecard in both 2015 and 2016. In Congress he will prioritize fighting climate change, fully funding the EPA, and rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement.
