Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Jesse Colvin for Congress in Maryland’s 1st District.

“Jesse Colvin served our country with honor overseas and we know he will do the same in Congress,” siad LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Marylanders in the first district deserve a representative who will always fight to create jobs and grow the economy while protecting the environment, whether it’s strengthening safeguards for the Chesapeake Bay or investing in clean energy. Jesse Colvin will be that tireless leader and we are proud to endorse his campaign.”

“Maryland’s economy depends on a thriving Chesapeake Bay and local waterways,” said Maryland League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Karla Raettig. “Jesse Colvin is committed to building on the success of bay restoration, keeping pollutants out of our waters, and being a champion for the communities that depend on a healthy Chesapeake Bay and their local waters.”

“I am proud to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Jesse Colvin. “There are 435 congressional districts, but only one has the Chesapeake Bay. That’s Maryland’s 1st District. When elected, I will fight every day for the Bay, it’s health, and the way of life associated with it. I reject the idea that what’s good for the environment and what’s good for the economy are somehow at odds. That’s why I want to help put 10 billion oysters in the Bay by 2025. Doing so would help keep the Bay’s waters clean as well as provide new aquaculture jobs and a boost to the local economy.”

Jesse Colvin grew up in Maryland and is a 4th-generation Marylander. He served for six years in the U.S. Army as an intelligence officer and completed four combat tours in Afghanistan and a year near the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea. As an Army Ranger in Afghanistan, Colvin led intelligence teams whose work led to the capture of Taliban, al-Qaeda, and other terrorist leaders. After leaving the military, Colvin received a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University. In Congress he will fight to protect the Chesapeake Bay and invest in Maryland’s clean energy economy.
