Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Mikie Sherrill for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District.

“Mikie Sherrill is committed to advancing policies that will keep New Jersey families safe and healthy,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “As a veteran and a mother she knows how critical it is to fight climate change and keep our air and water clean. We are excited to endorse her campaign and look forward to her leadership in Congress as we work together to build a clean energy economy.”

“Jay Webber has a record in the state assembly of voting with polluter interests and against the health of New Jersey families,” said New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Ed Potosnak. “Mikie Sherrill will stand up for clean air, clean water, and access to public lands for all New Jerseyans and we look forward to working with her in Congress.”

“Our community deserves to know that they have a leader in Congress focused on protecting our environment and growing our clean energy economy,” said Mikie Sherrill. “New Jersey has produced some of the greatest scientists and innovative technologies in our history, and we can continue that legacy by focusing on investments in clean energy technology.  I am honored to have LCV Action Fund’s endorsement and share their commitment to conservation and clean air and drinking water for our families.”

Mikie Sherrill graduated from the United States Naval Academy and spent almost ten years on active duty in the U.S. Navy. A Sea King Helicopter pilot, she flew missions in the Middle East and Europe, including during the Iraq invasion. Sherrill left the Navy in 2003 and earned a law degree from Georgetown Law School and a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics. After practicing law in private practice, she joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office as an Outreach and Reentry Coordinator and an Assistant U.S. Attorney, prosecuting federal cases and advising law enforcement. In Congress, Sherrill will prioritize growing New Jersey’s clean energy economy and advocate for policies to address climate change and protect clean air and water for New Jersey families.
