Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Representative Paul Tonko for re-election in New York’s 20th Congressional District.

“Representative Paul Tonko is a true champion for protecting clean drinking water and investing in a clean energy future for New York and the nation,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We need his leadership in the House now more than ever to stand up to the endless attacks from the Trump administration, and LCV Action Fund is proud to stand with him in this campaign.”

“As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Environment, Tonko has been a champion for clean water,” said New York League of Conservation Voters President Julie Tighe. “His legislative efforts this session led to a rare bipartisan agreement on clean drinking water improvements including the reauthorization of EPA’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund for the first time since its creation in 1996 and requiring water systems serving over 3,300 persons to monitor for unregulated contaminants, such as PFOA. We are proud to stand with Congressman Tonko.”

“I am honored and energized to once again receive the endorsements of LCV Action Fund and NYLCV, and I continue to support their vision of a greener New York that enhances public health, boosts small businesses, and moves us away from our crippling dependence on fossil fuels,” said Representative Paul Tonko. “In Congress, I will continue to fight for policies that grow jobs while protecting the environment, promoting clean water, and removing harmful chemicals from our products.”

Representative Paul Tonko was first elected to the U.S. House in 2008 and has spent the last decade building a reputation as a leader in the fight against climate change. As a co-chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), he fights for policies that advance the development of clean energy technologies and protect our air, water, and natural resources. Representative Tonk has earned an outstanding 97 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
