Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Representative Suzanne Bonamici for election to the U.S. House from Oregon’s 1st Congressional District.

“Representative Suzanne Bonamici has proven her strong commitment to climate action and expanding our clean energy economy since she was first elected to Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “As a member of the critical Select Committee on the Climate Crisis she is an invaluable ally in our movement and we are thrilled to support her for re-election.”

“The health of our planet, future of our communities, and strength of our economy depend on the actions we take today,” said Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici. Protecting the environment and standing up for science have been priorities of mine throughout my life and career in Congress. The district I represent in NW Oregon is already experiencing the effects of climate change, including ocean acidification, warming temperatures, and diminishing snowpack. We need bold action now, and that means standing up to the anti-science Trump Administration to get things done. I am proud to stand with the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund in this fight.”

“Congresswoman Bonamici has been a true ally in Congress prioritizing the health of all Oregonians by protecting our air, water, and public lands,” said Oregon League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Doug Moore. “Throughout her time in both the Oregon Legislature and the U.S. House of Representatives, she has led the charge on climate action and a clean energy economy.”

Suzanne Bonamici started as a legislative assistant in the Oregon House of Representatives in 2001. In 2006, the voters of Washington County’s House District 34 elected her to represent them in Salem. After only one term in the Oregon House, her leadership and hard work were recognized and led to her appointment, and then election, to the Oregon Senate in 2008. She was reelected to the Senate in 2010.

Representative Suzanne Bonamici was first elected to the U.S. Congress in a special election in 2012 and currently serves on the Education and Labor Committee where she is the chair of the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Human Services. She also serves on the Science, Space and Technology committee, and is one of nine Democrats serving on the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, which is working to develop recommendations for Congress to take meaningful, bold action to address climate change. She is a member of the Progressive Caucus and she is the Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the STEAM Caucus, which aims to educate innovators by integrating art and design into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
