Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Senator Maria Cantwell for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Washington.

“LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Senator Cantwell for reelection because she fights tirelessly to protect our air, lands, waters, and wildlife and to grow the clean energy economy,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Her strong leadership on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee has been critical to increasing fuel economy standards and to creating smart incentives for investments in clean energy and energy efficiency. We need her leadership and experience in the Senate as we continue to build a sustainable future.”

“Maria Cantwell is committed to protecting the unique beauty of the Evergreen State for future generations,” said Washington Conservation Voters Chief Executive Officer Joan Crooks. “She has been a staunch defender of our public lands and has fought efforts to bring offshore drilling to our Pacific coastline. We look forward to continuing to work with her to ensure we preserve a healthy environment for all here in Washington.”

“I am proud to have received the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund. Together we will go head-to-head against corporate polluters, expand access to public lands, and stand up for places like Puget Sound, Bristol Bay and the Methow Valley,” said Senator Maria Cantwell. “I will continue to fight every day to stop this administrations ridiculous plan to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refugee, protect Washington’s clean air and water, and combat climate change. We cannot let the Trump Administration roll back the environmental protections and science-based policies we’ve fought so hard to secure.”

As the Ranking Democrat on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Senator Maria Cantwell has been a leader in fighting back against the Trump administration’s attacks on public lands and efforts to open up more areas to drilling and mining. Cantwell has been a longtime leader in fighting efforts to open up the pristine and sacred Arctic Refuge to drilling. She has also been a strong supporter of  America’s clean energy future and has helped the state of Washington become a leader in green jobs. She fought to stop the tripling of National Park fees and has been an important ally of America’s best parks program, the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Senator Cantwell has earned an impressive 92% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
