Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Senator Tina Smith for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Minnesota.

“LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Senator Tina Smith for re-election because she is a champion for Minnesota’s treasured public lands and clean energy economy,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “She has become a powerful voice against the Trump administration’s dangerous rollbacks of essential environmental protections. We need her in the Senate for many years to come so she can continue to fight for clean air, clean water, and a sustainable future for all Minnesotans.”

“Senator Smith has built a record of upholding Minnesota’s proud conservation legacy,” said Conservation Minnesota Voter Center Executive Director Paul Austin. “In a very short time she has become a senate leader in protecting our waters and in building a clean energy economy that works for all Minnesotans.”

“If we are going to save our health and save our planet, we need a clean energy revolution and we need to take serious action on climate change now,” said Senator Tina Smith. “I am committed to taking bold action to tackle our nation’s climate crisis and will continue to be a leader on this issue in the Senate. It is an honor to have earned the support of LCV Action Fund and I look forward to working alongside LCV as we fight to protect and preserve our nation’s land, water and air and build a clean energy economy for future generations.”

In her first year as a U.S. Senator, Tina Smith earned an outstanding 100% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. As a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, she has been outspoken against the Trump administration’s decisions to roll back the Clean Power Plan and pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement. Smith has championed our public lands and efforts to help agricultural producers and rural small businesses with energy efficiency improvements. Prior to her time in Congress, Smith championed clean energy as Minnesota’s Lieutenant Governor, leading the effort to raise the state’s Renewable Energy Standard from 25 percent by 2025 to 50 percent by 2030.
