In response to the Trump Administration’s recent immigration policy demands and today’s decision to end Temporary Protective Status for more than 200,000 Salvadorans in this country, Jennifer Allen, senior vice president of Community and Civic Engagement at the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), released the following statement:

“We condemn President Trump’s shameful attacks on immigrant families and Dreamers, as well as his attempt to build an environmentally destructive border wall. Today’s decision for the TPS community shows that he is willing to uproot the lives of people who have been in this country legally – with no moral conscience of the effects of tearing families and communities apart. These are the very same people who have faced natural disasters in their homelands, earthquakes and hurricanes – some of the most severe consequences of climate change. This policy was meant to provide protection for those with little left to call home.

We need everyone in the fight for climate action, and immigrant communities, especially young immigrants, have been and will continue to be instrumental to building a stronger, more effective environmental movement. Congress must protect Dreamers and immigrant families now.”
