WASHINGTON D.C. Tonight the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski congratulates LCV Action Fund endorsed candidate Catherine Cortez Masto, who will serve as the next senator from Nevada.

“Congratulations to Catherine Cortez Masto as she prepares to build on Senator Reid’s legacy by working to protect Nevada’s incredible public lands and expand the clean energy economy, creating more solar, wind, and geothermal jobs. LCV looks forward to working with her in Congress as she fights to protect our environment for our children and grandchildren.”

LCV named Catherine Cortez Masto’s opponent, Representative Joe Heck, to the Dirty Dozen. LCV and related entities spent over $5 million to defeat Heck. LCV, LCV Victory Fund and New American Jobs Fund invested in a persuasion and turnout field effort to defeat Heck, one of the largest investments we’ve ever made in a Senate race. The New American Jobs Fund also targeted Nevada voters with persuasion mail. The New American Jobs Fund (Jobs Fund) is a collaboration between LCV and the United Steelworkers, which fought for a pro-jobs, pro-conservation Senate majority this cycle.

Alongside our allies, LCV and LCV Victory Fund also invested in TV and digital advertising highlighting Heck’s anti-environmental voting record that threatens solar jobs in Nevada as well as his ties to oil companies and other big polluters, with both English and Spanish spots.

GiveGreen, a project of LCV Action Fund supported by NRDC Action Fund PAC, has raised or contributed over $573,000 for Catherine Cortez Masto’s campaign, the most ever to a single candidate. Additionally, LCV’s grassroots program, GreenRoots, mobilized LCV members as volunteers in Nevada.
