WASHINGTON D.C. – Today the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski congratulates North Carolina Governor-elect Roy Cooper:

“Congratulations to Roy Cooper on winning his election. He is a true champion of  protecting the air that North Carolinians breathe and the water they drink. Governor Pat McCrory has proven he doesn’t care about his constituents with his close ties to Big Polluters and his mishandling of the Duke Energy coal-ash clean-up. In contrast, Roy Cooper will fight for the clean air and water that North Carolina’s families depend on. North Carolinians voted for Roy Cooper because they understand he is the champion they need in office.”

With the support of LCV, Conservation Votes PAC ran a $1.7 million effort to elect Roy Cooper as governor, knocking on over 245,000 doors in Charlotte, mailing over 250,000 pieces of mail to persuadable voters and making an $840,000 TV buy in the critical markets of Greensboro, Asheville and Wilmington.

GiveGreen in the States, a project of LCV Political Engagement Fund and NextGen Climate, has raised or contributed over $150,000 for Roy Cooper’s campaign.
