Washington, D.C. – League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski released the following statement on President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address:

“President Trump’s State of the Union was a divisive disgrace. He said nothing about fighting climate change, building our clean energy economy or helping communities on the frontlines of pollution, but his actions are far worse than his speech tonight – Trump has spent the last year polluting our air and water and selling out our public lands to the highest bidder just to appease his industry friends.

“This administration has ignored the outcry of opposition from millions of people across the country who want a president who puts our health and our communities first. Disguising his latest plot to bulldoze environmental protections as a sham infrastructure bill will be met with the same blowback. The League of Conservation Voters will continue to fight the Trump administration’s despicable policies every step of the way – in Congress, in states and cities, and at the polls.”
