After the deadline for Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to submit his report on the review of 11 National Marine Sanctuaries and Marine National Monuments, League of Conservation Voters Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld issued the following statement:

“Following Secretary Zinke’s disturbing pattern of attacking our public lands and waters, Secretary Ross continued the Trump administration’s anti-environmental agenda with a review that should have never even happened. Any recommendations to rescind or shrink protections for crucial regions of our oceans and Great Lakes would threaten vibrant local economies that depend on tourism, recreational fishing, and research from public waters. It’s time for the Trump administration to stop ignoring the many diverse stakeholders and the hundreds of thousands of people who have submitted comments opposing this unprecedented and unnecessary review.”
