Washington, DC: In response to news reports that the Environmental Protection Agency submitted to the White House Office of Management and Budget a plan to undermine national Mercury and Air Toxics Standards that were finalized in 2011, the League of Conservation Voters issued the following statement from Sara Chieffo, VP of Government Affairs:

“Launching a sweeping attack on mercury pollution standards on Child Health Day is beyond the pale — even for this polluter-backed administration. This is a new low for Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler and head of the EPA air office Bill Wehrum, who are clearly doing the bidding of a few coal barons, including some of their former clients. If finalized, this proposal would undermine the protections that industry is largely already in compliance with, threatening to expose young children and pregnant women to higher amounts of a powerful neurotoxin. This proposal must be stopped.”
