Washington, D.C. — In response to the Interior Department’s overhaul of the Endangered Species Act, the League of Conservation Voters issued the following statement from Legislative Representative Laura Forero:

“The Trump Interior Department’s decision to weaken the Endangered Species Act (ESA) is cruel and inhumane. Just months after an astonishing U.N. biodiversity report warned that one million species are on the verge of extinction due in part to human caused climate change, this administration’s rollback of the ESA will put earth’s creatures at an even greater risk. There is no scientific or logical explanation for this shameful move — the ESA is our nation’s most effective law for protecting wildlife in danger of extinction and the vast majority of voters support it. The ESA has prevented more than 99 percent of listed species from going extinct. LCV will continue to fight to protect our wildlife and defend the Environmental Species Act as long as it takes.”
