Washington, D.C. — In response to the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that take action on toxic PFAS chemicals, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) issued the following statement from Deputy Legislative Director Madeleine Foote:

“This is a huge victory for the tens of millions of people across the nation living with toxic PFAS contamination of their drinking water. Though there is still more to do, the House has taken critical first steps to stem the flow of these harmful chemicals and begin the necessary cleanup of widespread contamination. We want to especially thank Representatives Kildee, Dingell, and Pappas for leading the charge to hold polluters accountable for the damage they have done to our health and environment.

“As we look to a conference with the Senate, we urge negotiators to stand up for our families’ health and produce a package that includes the strongest provisions of both bills to protect our communities from these dangerous chemicals.”
