Washington, D.C. — In response to the Trump administration’s finalization of the repeal of the Clean Water Rule, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) issued the following statement from Deputy Legislative Director Madeleine Foote:

“If somehow there was any lingering doubt that the Trump administration only cares about lining the pockets of corporate polluters, then this irresponsible and dangerous rollback of drinking water protections for one in three people should eviscerate remaining suspicion. This immoral decision, on top of the multitude of other current and planned rulemakings to gut the Clean Water Act, will ensure that this critical law and the safeguards it provides will be nothing but an empty shell by the time this administration is done. From hurricanes to lead pipes to nutrient pollution to a million-and-one other challenges threatening the clean water every community depends on, dismantling drinking water protections is the absolute opposite of what the EPA and this administration should be focused on. We refuse to stand by and allow this disastrous administration to destroy our clean water safeguards and will fight to ensure every family has access to clean water.”
