Madison, Wisconsin — The contrast couldn’t be sharper in Wisconsin’s race for the U.S. Senate. Last night Scott Walker ally Leah Vukmir won an ugly primary to challenge clean water and climate champion Senator Tammy Baldwin, setting up a clear choice for Wisconsin voters. Vukmir’s record in the state senate shows she’d be terrible for Wisconsin’s environment and public health. Take a look:

LEAH VUKMIR:

X Refused to stand up to Trump’s attacks on Great Lakes restoration and opposed stepping up the fight against invasive species

X Supported handouts to developers over protecting clean water

X Earned a failing 20 percent lifetime score on Wisconsin LCV’s Conservation Scorecard

SENATOR TAMMY BALDWIN:

Led efforts in Congress to protect the Great Lakes from pollution and invasive species

Stood up to the Trump administration’s rollbacks of clean air and water protections

Has an impressive 97 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard

“As a state senator, Leah Vukmir has continually voted against safeguards for the Great Lakes and helped implement Scott Walker’s destructive environmental agenda,” said Kerry Schumann, Wisconsin LCV Executive Director. “She’s more interested in siding with developers who want to pollute our lakes than standing up for Wisconsin’s environment and health. We simply can’t afford to send Leah Vukmir to Washington.”

“Senator Tammy Baldwin knows that protecting clean water and fighting climate change are crucial to Wisconsin’s way of life,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President for Campaigns. “Leah Vukmir, however, can’t name a single way she disagrees with Trump — even as his toxic administration slashes funding for Great Lakes restoration and blocks efforts to keep invasive Asian carp from destroying Wisconsin’s sport fishing industry.”
