Ways to Give

Become a Member of LCV

The easiest and most important way to help LCV’s advocacy and electoral programs is to add strength to our membership. It’s as simple as making a contribution or joining on-line with your email at www.lcv.org.

League of Conservation Voters (LCV)

Our advocacy program includes the LCV Scorecard, lobbying, accountability, research, communications and federal electoral campaigns. As a 501(c)(4), gifts to LCV are not tax-deductible as they may be used for political purposes such as to support or oppose federal candidates. LCV cannot accept contributions from businesses or unions. Gifts to LCV’s general program may be made anonymously. Contributions specific to a race or candidate are reported to the FEC and therefore are not anonymous. There are no limits to the amount a donor may give.* Contributions can be made with a gift of appreciated securities. Donors do not recognize any capital gains income when shares are transferred directly to LCV’s broker for immediate sale. For more information, please contact LCV’s broker: Peter E. Driscoll at Merrill Lynch (800-815-5395 or 202-659-7588).

LCV Action Fund

If you are an LCV member, you can give to the LCV Action Fund, our political action committee (PAC). It runs the Dirty Dozen and Environmental Champion programs that includes both independent expenditure campaigns and direct support for candidates, and our Eagles program that puts staff directly into candidate campaigns. Gifts are not tax deductible and cannot be made anonymously because they are reportable to the FEC. FEC regulations allow individuals to contribute up to $5,000 per calendar year to the LCV Action Fund. For households with two or more individuals who wish to make their own contributions, please send separate checks or if sending a single check, list names and amounts attributable to each individual.

You can convey your environmental values to candidates by “bundling” your donations through the LCV Action Fund. Each year, LCV Action Fund endorses candidates with solid environmental credentials. Write your checks out directly to the candidates’ campaigns, but mail them to the LCV Action Fund so that we can ‘bundle” them with other individual contributions and send a powerful message to the candidates that their environmental voting record is important to you as a donor.

LCV - 527 Fund

Our 527 programs focus on state electoral work done in conjunction with state league partners. Gifts to the LCV-527 Fund are not tax deductible. There are no limits to the amount a donor may give. Gifts to the 527 Fund cannot be made anonymously and are reported to the IRS.

For more information or if you have questions about your contribution, please contact Amy Eckenroth, Director of Major Donor Programs, at 202-785-8683, or email her at amy_eckenroth@lcv.org.
