House : California (D, CA-47)

Alan Lowenthal has an impressive 20-year career in public service in California, including serving on the Long Beach City Council, in the California State Assembly, and most recently in the State Senate. Lowenthal has dedicated himself to protecting the environment, receiving a lifetime score of 96% on the California League of Conservation Voters’ California Environmental Scorecard. Cleaning up pollution from freight transportation – especially in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach – and securing $3 billion to address air quality and congestion pollution in this sector has been the landmark initiative of his career.

With positions on several environmental committees in the State Senate, Lowenthal has championed clean vehicles and healthy communities by establishing incentives for electric vehicles, advocating for decreased vehicle emissions, and supporting legislation to improve air quality and to “green” schools.

Lowenthal’s work on the environment has won him numerous awards from organizations including CLCV, the Sierra Club, the Planning and Conservation League, and the California Coastal Commission.

He joins the U.S. House as the Representative for the recently redistricted 47th District of California.

In his own words:
"I first ran for public office to clean up the pollution in the port of Los Angeles twenty years ago, and I haven’t stopped fighting for our environment since. We can encourage the emerging green industries that will provide “green collar” jobs for Californians, clean up the pollution that threatens the health of our citizens, and protect the neighborhoods, coastline, and air of the 47th district."
