Joseph Kennedy III is the son of former Representative Joseph Kennedy II, who represented Massachusetts’s 8thcongressional district. After law school, Kennedy III joined the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic, working on projects related to ecotourism. After two years, Kennedy returned to Massachusetts to practice law, working at a pro-bono law firm specializing in mortgage-foreclosure mitigation and in the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office and the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office.
Kennedy III supports a comprehensive energy plan that will benefit the economy, the environment, and the security of our country. He believes that investing in renewable energy technologies will lead to the creation of highly-skilled, middle-class jobs. He recently endorsed the Cape Wind energy project as a way to increase Massachusetts’ supply of clean energy and reduce reliance on foreign oil.
Kennedy III joins the U.S. House to fill the seat of retiring 16-term Representative Barney Frank, who has a lifetime score of 92% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard through 2011.
In his own words:
"With climate change threatening irreparable harm on our ecosystems and economy, we need to move away from carbon-intensive sources of energy. I support federal environmental and economic policies that will reward zero- and low-carbon energy producers and make us less reliant than ever on energy imported from regimes that share neither our values nor our interests."
