Location: Flexible (the intern may decide whether to work remotely and/or from an LCV office)
Duration: 12 Weeks; September – December 2023 (start and end dates flexible)
Schedule and Compensation: 40 hours per week; $17.00 per hour

General Description:

LCV believes our earth is worth fighting for because everyone has a right to clean air, water, and a safe, healthy community. To ensure those rights are protected, we help people use their power to shape policy, hold politicians and polluters accountable, and influence elections.

For more than 50 years, LCV has grown into a potent political force for protecting our planet and everyone who inhabits it. We have built a powerful national movement with 30 state affiliates, and grassroots and community organizing programs across the country.

LCV is seeking a Research and Data Intern who will research and collate data on winning candidates in the 2023 election cycle and conduct outreach to invite them to participate in governance training opportunities. They will also help with year-end reporting on our electoral successes and support LCV’s Senior Manager of Candidate Recruitment and Training in the design and implementation of governance training and other projects.

In addition, the Research and Data Intern will support LCV’s Director of Field and Member Mobilization Data with research and data projects as well as work with the Youth Digital Campaigns Manager on various digital strategy data and research needs.

Special projects include producing a report on the outcome of the fall 2023 elections, including interviewing and highlighting some of our Candidate Academy alumni running in 2023. The Research and Data Intern will join a Fall 2023 internship cohort that will have access to development opportunities including a Capstone project, informational interviews with staff, and organization-wide training and discussions. 

Intern Will Gain Experience in:

  • Advocacy campaign structure and how campaigns utilize research to move towards their goals.
  • Researching information related to political candidates, field and member mobilization and digital advocacy.
  • Communicating and outreach to political candidates and other key stakeholders.
  • Cleaning data and preparing lists to upload and export into various digital tools for LCV’s digital and grassroots organizing programs.
  • Incorporating digital strategy for youth engagement and advocacy campaigns. 
  • Drafting memorandum to explain data lists and segmentation to staff and partner organizations.
  • Writing memos and training materials for broader distribution.
  • Interviewing political candidates and recently elected officials.
  • Incorporating racial justice and equity into research and ensuring these principles are applied throughout team processes.

Qualifications

  • Skills: Highly organized; strong attention to detail; excellent written and oral communications skills; strong research skills; exhibits solid judgment; critical thinking skills; able to work independently; able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks; self-starter; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Willing and able to ask for support and guidance when faced with multiple, competing tasks or deadlines. Experience with social media strategy, VAN, SQL, or R is a plus.
