Tonight, presidential candidate Rick Perry will attend a fundraiser in his honor hosted by Midwestern coal baron and notorious climate denier Bob Murray. Murray, CEO of the Ohio-based Murray Energy Corporation, will host Perry at Wheeling’s White Palace Ballroom in West Virginia.

More on Murray:

Murray has been an outspoken climate denier.

  • Murray has even used the attention from a tragic accident at one of his mines to rant about global warming.  [Washington Post, 8/9/07]

  • Murray told a Senate committee, “"The science of global warming is suspect… "Climate change or the so-called global warming issue is a human one...Reducing carbon emissions will impact our poorest families worst."   [ABCNews, 8/8/07]

  • In a speech to the New York Coal Trade Association in 2007, Murray denigrated global warming as “elitists' ill-conceived ‘global goofiness' campaigns.” [New York Sun, 4/3/07]

Murray lobbies against environmental protections while his Murray Energy violates them.

  • Murray has appealed to House Oversight Chair Darrell Issa to stop the regulation of coal ash. [Evansville Courier and Press, 9/20/11]

  • In February 2011, Murray lobbied Issa to block existing and new EPA clean air safeguards.  [Washington Post, 2/7/11]

  • Murray Energy has had at least 7 coal slurry spills in the past decade, putting water, land and wildlife at risk and releasing mercury, lead and carcinogenic waste.  [NBC4i, 10/5/10]

Murray puts his bottom line before the health and safety of his workers.
