Presidential candidate (and climate science denier) Rep. Michele Bachmann wants to abolish the EPA.
The Des Moines Register reports that Bachmann recently told Iowa voters "the EPA will have doors locked and lights turned off" if she is elected.
Bachmann has described the EPA as "job-killing" despite the fact that, according to ThinkProgress, 40 years of EPA safeguards have led to "[n]o economic collapse, no mass layoffs, no spikes in electricity prices." In fact, EPA rules and safeguards are creating jobs—for instance, power plant retrofitting is expected to create nearly 300,000 jobs over the next 5 years.
Bachmann is joined by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as presidential candidates who have called for the abolition of the EPA.
