The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops submitted a letter Monday in support of the proposed EPA standards to curb toxic air pollution.
The statement advocated that the EPA standards be fully implemented in order to protect children’s welfare and the nation’s environmental resources. “Such standards should protect the health and welfare of all people, especially the most vulnerable members of our society, including unborn and other young children, from harmful exposure to toxic air pollution emitted from power plants,” the letter stated.
While the Conference acknowledged that the U.S. was in the midst of an economic hardship, the letter argued that the standards’ benefits far outweigh the costs.
