Clean energy is now creating more jobs in the United States than coal or natural gas.
Right now, solar energy is the fastest growing industry in the United States--it employs more than 93,000 Americans, could grow by another 25,000 to 50,000 jobs this year, and is expected to generate 4 million jobs by 2030. Most of those jobs are in the construction and installation of solar facilities.
The Solar Energy Industries Association cites a number of factors for the growth of that sector, including "affordability for consumers, rapidly decreasing manufacturing costs and most importantly a strong commitment from the Obama administration and other policymakers in Washington."
According to the association, the solar industry goal is to install 10 gigawatts annually by 2015, adding enough power for 2 million homes a year.
