We have learned this morning that Dr. Willie Soon—an infamous climate science skeptic—has received more than $1 million in the past 10 years from Big Oil and Dirty Coal.

You might remember Dr. Soon as one of the co-authors of an atrocious Wall Street Journal Op-Ed that attempted to downplay the health risks of mercury pollution.
According to an investigation by Greenpeace, Dr. Soon—who is an astrophysicist—has been heavily funded by corporate polluters such as ExxonMobil, the American Petroleum Institute and Koch Industries. According to the analysis, every new grant Dr. Soon has received since 2002 has been from oil or coal interests.
It seems that the investments of these dirty energy interests in Dr. Soon have paid off—Soon has argued that the 20th century was not a uniquely extreme period in terms of climate change, has questioned the health risks of mercury pollution from coal plants and has downplayed the idea that polar bears are threatened by human-caused climate change.
