Champions in Congress are standing up to climate change deniers and calling for action.  Here are a few highlights from recent activities:

Senators Maria Cantwell (WA), Barbara Boxer (CA), Ed Markey (MA), and Jeff Merkley (OR) spoke out against overriding President Obama’s veto of the bill attempting to force approval of the dirty Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (RI) joined Senator Markey for a press conference against this attempt to undermine the environmental review process and unlock the dirtiest fossil fuels in the world. Check out some highlights on LCV’s twitter account and find the video of the press conference here.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (RI) responded to Senator Inhofe’s snowball stunt by pointing to the scientific consensus on man-made climate change.  Check out the video of Senator Whitehouse’s response via LCV’s Facebook post.

Recently, the Senate EPW Committee hosted EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy for a hearing on the department’s budget request.  Senators Barbara Boxer (CA), Ben Cardin (MD), Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), and Ed Markey (MA) all defended the EPA for protecting the air we breathe and the water we drink and for their proposal to reduce carbon pollution from power plants. LCV tweeted some their remarks. Check out a video archive of the EPW hearing here.

LCV was pleased to host a tele-town hall with Representatives Derek Kilmer (WA-6), Alan Lowenthal (CA-47), and Scott Peters (CA-52) and their constituents to discuss addressing climate change and other environmental priorities.
