LCV welcomes the Obama Administration decision to today release of the first-ever national standards to limit air pollution from hydraulic fracturing for natural gas process known as “fracking.”

The EPA’s New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPS) will require careful capture of gases previously released during drilling.  These gases, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), toxic benzene, and the greenhouse gas methane, can contribute to asthma attacks, emergency room visits, cancer, and death.

LCV looks forward to working with the Obama Administration on hydraulic fracturing pollution standards to safeguard the health of American families and protect the environment from dangerous air pollutants.
