Despite all the rhetoric promising action to create jobs, Republican House leadership introduced legislation Thursday that defunds the Labor Department’s Green Jobs Innovation Fund. The measure is included in a House appropriations bill for health and labor programs.
The program, which provides competitive grants to expand worker training opportunities in the clean jobs sector, would not receive any funding for the Fiscal Year 2012, if the legislation were approved.
In its budget, the White House has requested increasing funds for the program from its initial 2010 levels of $20 million to $60 million.
The program, thus far has benefited more than 9,000 people across 18 states.
