Climate Deniers Taking a Page Out of Big Tobacco Playbook

In a May 11 interview with ABC, Florida Senator and possible 2016 GOP Presidential candidate Marco Rubio stated the following: “I do not believe that human activity is causing these dramatic changes to our climate the way these scientists are portraying it… and I do not believe that the laws that they propose to pass will do anything about it.”

The scariest part of Rubio’s comments is in the phrase “these scientists.” “These scientists” derides ...More

    Celebrating America’s Premier Conservation Program

Mt. Rainier National Park, a scenic waterway in Louisiana, and a battlefield in North Carolina sound like a disparate list. They are vastly diverse in terrain, varied in location, and have different recreational values. However, they share a common factor. All three of these places have received money from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), a program that helps fund anything from critical public lands to Civil War sites to city ball fields. LWCF ...More

The Climate Action Plan is Paving a Path Towards Paris

Since President Obama announced his Climate Action Plan last June, he has taken steps to reduce carbon pollution, help our country adapt to the climate change impacts already underway, and to re-establish our leadership in the international arena. The President’s plan is critical to meeting the commitment he made at the 2009 U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen for the United States to reduce carbon pollution 17 percent below 2005 levels by 2020. The efforts ...More

The Shifting Economics of Tar Sands Development

This week, the Senate Energy and Natural Resource committee once again voted on approving the Keystone pipeline. While Senator Landrieu (D-LA) may be eager to show she can deliver for the oil and gas industry, the industry itself has become less eager of late to dig into tar sands projects. On May 30th, the Canadian branch of French oil major Total SA put on indefinite hold an $11-billion project that would have extracted 160,000 barrels ...More

Carbon Rule: Good for the Planet, Really Good for Jobs

The economy is still king, according to a recent survey conducted by CNN/ORC. The poll showed American voters overwhelmingly rank the economy as the most important political issue today, so last week when the President announced a historic plan to drastically reduce carbon emissions, the conversation also focused on the plan’s economic impacts.

Polluter-backed special interests like the Chamber of Commerce have attacked the proposal, making catastrophic predictions to scare the American people. In a ...More

14 House Members Likely Do the Bidding of Polluters

On Thursday, the House Energy and Power Subcommittee will hold a hearing on the EPA’s proposed standards limiting carbon pollution from existing power plants, a core pillar of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan. We can expect to hear the same old tired attacks on the proposal from those desperate to hold onto outdated, dirty, and dangerous sources of energy. Here’s a compilation of comments from the 14 members of the subcommittee who deny or question ...More

Climate Change is a Danger to Our Health

Climate disruption is already affecting our daily lives by jeopardizing our health and devastating our communities all across the country. Thankfully, President Obama is tackling the problem head on. The core pillar of the President’s strategy is the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recently-announced Clean Power Plan, which will place commonsense limit on carbon pollution from existing power plants. This is a critical step that will combat climate change, protect public health, and help preserve our ...More
