Yesterday, Republican leaders in the House pushed through an extension of the payroll tax cut that would also advance the dirty Keystone XL pipeline, and in doing so continued to push innacurate claims about the project's potential to create jobs.
And this morning on MSNBC's Morning Joe, host Joe Scarborough and former Democratic Congressman Harold Ford Jr. also perpetuated the Keystone XL jobs myth.
As our friends at the National Wildelife Federation have pointed out, the one actual job study not funded by polluters was done by Cornell University’s Global Labor Institute. Their conclusion: Keystone XL is likely to kill more jobs than it creates. Additionally, refuting another claim from the pipeline's proponents, several analyses -- including one prepared for the Department of Energy -- show that the Keystone XL pipeline will not reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil.
