LCV Response to Administration's Proposed Forest Planning Rule

11 Feb 2011  |   Daniel Jacobs

Yesterday, League of Conservation Voters Legislative Representative Alex Taurel released a statement in response to the U.S. Forest Service's proposed Forest Planning Rule, which will enormously impact the management of our national forests for the next several decades.

Taurel stated:

"While the Obama Administration's proposal does recognize the importance of protecting wildlife, safeguarding watersheds, and using sound science to manage our national forests, it unfortunately does not go far enough in requiring that these elements guide how our forests are managed. The result is too much discretion and far too few binding standards to ensure the viability of wildlife and the protection of drinking water that millions of Americans depend on. We think the Administration can do better for our forests, and we will continue pressing them to do just that."
