Today, the League of Conservation Voters and Washington Conservation Voters announced their early endorsement of Jay Inslee for governor.
Inslee is currently a Democratic Congressman representing Washington’s 1st Congressional District.
This is the first time LCV has endorsed a gubernatorial candidate in at least three decades.
Here is Brendon Cechovic, Executive Director of Washington Conservation Voters, on the endorsement:
"It shouldn't come as a surprise that we are endorsing Jay Inslee this early. He literally wrote the book on building a clean energy economy and is exactly the kind of governor who can tackle the challenge of putting Washingtonians back to work while ensuring we protect the things that matter most."
Here is LCV President Gene Karpinski's statement on his organization's historic decision:
"The states have always been the laboratories of democracy and clean energy is no exception. We know that Congressman Inslee has seen firsthand how many politicians in Washington would rather block job-creating, clean energy legislation than work to build a thriving new energy economy. We're endorsing Congressman Inslee for governor because we know that he'll work to ensure Washington State is a clean energy leader and an example of what our national economy really needs."
And here is how Rep. Inslee reacted to the announcement:
"I am thrilled that the people on the front lines of the fight for clean air, land and water are coming together to support my race for governor. Washington State has always been at the cutting edge of new technologies, whether in aerospace or software. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get Washingtonians to work building a robust, innovative new energy economy. We don't need to make a choice between creating jobs and protecting the environment, and I'm honored to have the support of people who will help me do both."
