Maine Wind Project Receives Financial Boon

04 Mar 2011  |   Daniel Jacobs

The Energy Department took an important step towards strengthening America's clean energy industry by committing $102 million in loan guarantees to the Record Hill wind farm development project.

The project developers of the wind farm, Wagner Wind Energy and Independence Wind LLC, aim to construct 22 turbines near Roxbury, Maine that would generate roughly 50.6 megawatts of energy. Each of the durable 22 turbines contains sensor and computer systems enabling them to withstand inclement weather conditions while continuing to produce electricity.

According to Energy Secretary Steven Chu:

"Record Hill introduces an innovative technology to the U.S. that will boost domestic wind generation and help us reach President Obama's goal of doubling clean energy produced in America by 2035."
