NH Holding Hearings on Bill to End Cap-And-Trade Program

19 Apr 2011  |   Damien Shirley

The Boston Globe reports that New Hampshire's Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will be holding hearings on whether or not to end that state's participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

RGGI is a 10-state program that requires generators to either reduce carbon pollution or bid for allowances on reductions they can't meet. Its goal is to reduce carbon pollution from the power sector by 10% by 2018.

NH's Senate is considering a bill???already passed by NH's House???that would end the state's cap-and-trade program, thus ending its participation in RGGI.

The hearings are scheduled to begin on Thursday.
