Obama pointed to the sad absurdity of Rick Perry’s and other Republican primary contenders’ anti-climate change stances at a San Jose fundraiser earlier this week.
“Some of you here may be folks who actually used to be Republicans but are puzzled by what's happened to that party, are puzzled by what's happening to that party,” President Obama said. “I mean, has anybody been watching the debates lately? You've got a governor whose state is on fire denying climate change.”
Rick Perry has made headlines in recent weeks after claiming that climate scientists “manipulated” climate change data for profit. The Governor’s state, Texas, remains in the throes of a devastating drought and a rampant wildfire season that has killed several people, destroyed thousands of homes, and caused $5.2 billion in agriculture losses.
