Rep. Nunes Floats Dangerous Energy Bill

04 Mar 2011  |   Daniel Jacobs

Yesterday, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) floated a precarious piece of legislation that would have far-reaching and detrimental implications on American energy and our environment.

The bill allows extensive offshore drilling, opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to environmentally destructive and hazardous oil drilling operations.

Nunes' legislation also permits the construction of 200 nuclear reactors across the country, and selects the controversial Yucca Mountain site ??? which President Obama and the Energy Department have rejected ??? as the nation's long-term depository solution for nuclear waste.

Additionally, the bill prevents the EPA from implementing safeguards against carbon pollution and supports the creation of dirty, coal-based transportation fuel.

Nunes' bill has already received support from over 50 co-sponsors, including House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI).
