This week, the House is considering a proposed continuing resolution to fund the federal government for the remainder of the 2011 fiscal year. The continuing resolution proposed by House Republican leadership calls for major cuts to the Department of Energy, as well as deep cuts to the EPA and other environmental programs.
Today, Energy Secretary Stephen Chu said that the continuing resolution would have "significantly adverse impacts" on clean energy research???not surprising, since the proposed CR aims to cut $899 million from energy efficiency and renewable energy funding.
If the House funding measure is passed as proposed, it would significantly hinder the United States' efforts to move toward clean, renewable energy and reduce our dangerous dependence on oil. In addition, it would significantly restrict the Department of Energy, EPA and a variety of other environmental and public health programs.
