Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, is planning to review the 14 energy-related bills his committee has passed this Congress to determine which measures can best contribute to a job creation proposal being worked on in the Senate.
Senate Democratic leadership has stated that creating jobs will be a major focus of theirs in the coming months. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) stated Tuesday that energy measures will be part of his job creation proposal.
Some of the bills passed by Sen. Bingaman’s committee include provisions to spur clean energy research and development, invest in advanced energy-efficient vehicles, boost industrial energy-efficiency technologies and create a federal Clean Energy Deployment Administration, which would expand financing of low-emissions projects.
House Democrats are also expected to propose a variety of clean energy measures as part of a push for job creation.
